Congratulations card with embossed elements

I decided to include the below post on my own blog as well. Originally, I have prepared this one as a designer contribution for Hobitik's blogpage.

I have a number of papers, which I can spend hours looking at, turning and moving from one pile to  another. Those are so beautiful, that I do not dare to put my scissors through. Papers from Scrap Fab are in that pile. But that day, I was determined to put it in action. I prepared a base for the card, like a sandwich, water colour paper - design paper, leaving the white edge around, and fussy cut beautifully framed bird. Wooden patterned paper comes from Winter Feelings by Studio Light 6x6 paper pad.

Left overs of the wooden background paper were stamped with leaves and embossed with white embossing powder. The same procedure repeated for vellum paper. Good advice - hold the heat gun underneath the vellum paper and not directly over the stamped image. That trick prevents vellum paper for bending.

Now, when all elements are cut out, it is time to play with the layout. I added a thin stripe of vellum paper to the base and stitched the edges. In order to create a dimension and lift the embellishments from the background, I used some foam pieces. The same effect, though, can de achieved by gluing embellishments onto a thick cardstock.

All elements have been assembled to bring the focus to the central piece. I added some roses and rose leaves in the opposite corners to keep the balance and symmetry.

This congratulations card got accompanied by a money gift. Out of a plastic cap, wrapped in the matching paper, paper straws and two balloons (one inside of another), I constructed a hot air balloon (inspired by other creations on Pinterest). Money is put inside the pink ballon, with some sequins. Small flags on the ribbon around the balloon are made of washi tape.
